ABOUT SANTORINI WALL PAINTINGS
In both categories of buildings, private and public the rooms to
be painted were evidently selected on the criterion of their finction
or importance. The assemblages of Akrotiri wall paintings restored
so far attest the Theran artist's interest in a remarkable diversity
of subject. Abstract patterns, geometric motifs, inianimate objects
and structures, plants, animals and human figure were thematic repository
on which they drew.
Many of these subjects were used as details in large composition
though quite often some of them constitute compositions in their
own right.
